Archival Digital Image Requests

The BHHA promotes the use of its materials for research purposes. Using digital images, the BHHA will now email archival documents and photographs from the posted holdings list (a pdf of the archival listing is below). These digital images of archival documents and photographs are for study purposes only and cannot be published or used for public presentations or posted on the Internet, or reproduced in any other form (unless separate permission is granted-see below). It is also the responsibility of the researcher to keep accurate citations.  Documents are in Swedish and English; some Swedish documents have not been translated yet.  The BHHA reserves the right to determine who will be allowed access to the archives.

Before digital images are sent to off-site patrons via email, an image request form must be filled out and turned in (a pdf of the request form is below) and the processing fee paid. The BHHA only accepts checks (payable to the “BHHA”) for digital image requests. You can mail the completed form and fee to: BHHA, PO Box 92, Bishop Hill, IL 61419. The fee schedule for digital image requests for study use only is as follows.

Digital images (from the posted archival holdings list): $2.00 per document or photograph, if a document consist of multiple pages, it is still only $2 for the entire document.

The turn-around time for digital image orders will depend on the number of requests and the availability of the staff.

Use of all BHHA material in publications must be approved by Bishop Hill Heritage Association staff. We reserve the right to charge a fee, separate from the processing fee, for the use of our materials in publications. Other conditions will also apply.

WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use”, that user may be liable for copyright infringements. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a photocopy order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
