Maple Syrup Making Days in Bishop Hill, IL
An Immersive workshop March 10, 11, 12th
at The Twinflower Inn
Spend an enchanting weekend in Bishop Hill, Illinois
learning the skills to make your own maple syrup!
In the earliest days of the Bishop Hill Colony a letter was sent to Sweden proudly proclaiming this was the Land of Canaan, the biblical land of milk and honey, because “sugar flows from the trees in the springtime.” Join us as we revive this ancient tradition. The American Indians taught the pioneers how to make syrup; and the photo on this poster is from a 1937 Maple Syrup camp right here in Henry county!
As part of the workshop we will walk through the entire process of making maple syrup: drilling tap holes, collecting sap, boiling it down, straining and then canning the maple syrup. We will start Friday evening at 7:00 pm with a happy hour where we will sample a few maple flavored cocktails! We will also discuss cooking with maple syrup and enjoy a maple syrup breakfast for supper on Saturday. Workshop participants go home with a small jar of syrup. And you can order all of the equipment you need to make your own maple syrup next spring!
Contact the Twinflower Inn for details and costs concerning the workshops at 309-927-3506.
