For 15 years, the Jansonist Colony of Bishop Hill was run by men. What role did women play? What sacrifices did they make? How did they survive on the American frontier? On Sunday October 7 at 2 p.m. in the Steeple Building Museum, Dr. Brita Butler-Wall will present a program about the Women of the Bishop Hill Colony, at which time these questions will be answered. Dr. Butler-Wall is a descendant of the Bishop Hill Colony who enjoys bringing Jansonist history to life. She lives in Seattle and is writing a book about the Jansonist emigration to Bishop Hill. This one-hour presentation is free and open to the public.

The Women of the Bishop Hill Colony program is sponsored by the Bishop Hill Heritage Association. The Steeple Building Museum is located at 103 North Bishop Hill Street. For more information about this program, please call 309 927-3899 or email bhha@mymctc.net .
