To honor Bishop Hill’s very own Company D, IL 57th Volunteer Infantry, the BHHA has organized Civil War Days for Friday May 8 and Saturday May 9. Friday will be Civil War Days for Schools, in which students will rotate through various stations and learn about a variety of Civil War era topics, such as battlefield surgery and cannon loading. So far, almost 800 students have signed up for this day. Friday’s activities are not open to the general public.
On Saturday, we will have a living history encampment in the village park with programs going on every hour on the hour. All these programs are free and open to the public. Some of the programs that are scheduled are: The Gettysburg Address by Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln, a Southern Tea hosted by the Ladies of Charity, an appearance by General “Black Jack” Logan, a Civil War Dance, an afternoon skirmish and much, much more. The Steeple Building Museum will also have a special Company D exhibit.
