Last week, I read a disturbing news article about volunteers in the U.S. In September 2004, nearly 29 percent of adults volunteered, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In September 2014, just over 25 percent did so. It saddens me that less people are willing or able to help out others.
However, I am happy to say that in Bishop Hill that is not the case at all. During the past year, BHHA volunteers put in over 2,400 hours of work, from building maintenance to fundraising projects to event setup to conducting workshops. Many of the events and programs that the BHHA has conducted over the years could not be done without all the help our volunteers provide. So thank you to all the people who has donated their time and expertise to make Bishop Hill such a success!
As you can see, there are many opportunities to volunteer with the Heritage. If you are interested in helping us to preserve the unique heritage of Bishop Hill, please call 309 927-3899 or email bhha@mymctc.net for more details.
