This Day in Bishop Hill History: Janson’s Death

On May 13, 1850, Eric Janson, the leader of the Bishop Hill Colony, was murdered by John Root at the Cambridge Courthouse.  With his passing, leadership of the Colony was eventually shifted to 7 trustees.  Janson’s gravesite is located in the Bishop Hill Cementery.
