Angie Snook, executive director of the Geneseo Historical Museum, will be speaking at the Dairy Building in Bishop Hill at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday August 9. She will be talking about The Orphan Train trip through Henry County. This free presentation is sponsored by the BHHA and is open to the public.
From 1853 until 1930 between 150,000 – 200,000 children from infants to age 16 rode “The Orphan Train” to new homes. Most of the children were brought from New York to the Midwest. Some of the children ended up in local homes in Henry Co., Illinois. Many of the orphans described their stories and carried emotional scars throughout their lives. This program shares one of America’s best kept secrets.
The Dairy Building is located at 410 North Erickson Street in Bishop Hill, Illinois.
