On October 22, 2016 from 7 to 8 p.m., Augustana’s Dr. Adam Kaul will give the annual O. Fritiof Ander Lecture in Immigration History: “Making and Marketing Heritage: Nostalgia, Dissonance, and Sustainability in Bishop Hill, Illinois.”  Dr. Kaul is a socio-cultural anthropologist whose research focuses primarily on the social impacts of tourism. His talk will deal with how tourism and clean energy have impacted the small Swedish-American village of Bishop Hill. The lecture is a part of a larger book project.

Parking is available in the evening in Faculty/Staff Lot H or on 7th Avenue. There are a few handicapped spaces nearby on 35th Street. (Campus map)

The Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center’s O. Fritiof Ander Lecture in Immigration History is presented annually by a prominent scholar in the field of immigration studies.  Dr. O. Fritiof Ander taught history at Augustana College from 1930-1968. He was a pioneer and leading name in immigration history and the author of numerous books and articles in the field.
