The Orion Community Band will be performing at 1 p.m. at the Bishop Hill park as part of this year’s Midsommar Music Festival. The concert is free and open to the public.
The following is a story about the band that appeared this year in the Register-Mail:

The Orion Community Band, 16 years old this summer, has a full schedule of performances. Orion resident Tony Hamilton founded the band with 25 members for the 90th anniversary celebration of the Central Park band shell in July 2003. The band shared the stage with Bill Allred’s Classic Jazz Band. Allred, a native of Rock Island, lived in Orion before joining Walt Disney World as a staff musician.
They drew 1,500 to Central Park on a perfect evening.

Emily Roberts has served as the band’s director throughout its history. Since that night in 2003, she has directed as many as 65 members. Spectators should bring lawn chairs for the performances. For the latest on the band, see www.facebook.com/OrionCommunityBand.
