The following is information about our new pottery line from our Store Manager, Marie Watson:
Something’s been a-brewin’ at the Colony Store for a while now (something besides my morning coffee that is!), and I’m so excited to be able to share it with you all…. So without further ado, we present to you the first in the line of Colony Store Exclusives!
Available both in store and on our website at www.bishophillheritage.org, these lovely handmade pottery pieces were made exclusively for the Colony Store by Bishop Hill artist Lou Hanson. She is the owner and operator of the Hantverk Galleri here in historic Bishop Hill, where she has many unique and beautiful types of handmade pottery for sale. We are extremely pleased that she so graciously agreed to produce this exclusive line for us!
The collection includes a lidded crock for $40, a large mug for $25 and an ornament for $10. Each piece comes in blue, brown and green, and features a depiction of a hardworking dairy maid, shouldering her buckets. Our model for this wonderful image is a descendant of original colonists (I will leave it to you to figure out who it was!) This specific image was chosen to highlight our Dairy Building, where, during Colony times, the milkmaids lived on the second floor. The building itself is now undergoing an extensive restoration and will be open to the public later this year. Each piece also comes with a special hangtag that gives the history of the Dairy Building, as well as the background on the Bishop Hill Heritage Association (BHHA), which owns both the Dairy Building and the Colony Store!
These lovely pieces are limited edition, meaning that they will only be around for a short time! So don’t wait – please stop by and see us at the store or order them online at www.bishophillheritage.org! Tack sa mycket…. thanks so much!
