May is National Preservation Month and this year, it is also the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act. This act paved the way for local preservation ordinances, like the historic district here in Bishop Hill. It is one of the many reasons that many of the Colony Buildings are still with us today. So as we celebrate Memorial Day Weekend at national/state historic sites, parks, buildings, etc., don’t forget to make a small donation at these places to help preserve this history for future generations.
