Sunday, October 19, the Swedish string duo lydia and Andrea will be performing at the Dairy Building at 3 p.m. They perform an energetic and engaging program of traditional music on fiddle, 5-string fiddle, nyckelharpa, and voice — including waltzes, schottises, polskas, and more. Andrea Larson and lydia ievins have been playing Swedish-style fiddle together for the past decade, and have just spent an intense 2012-13 academic year studying in the center of the nyckelharpa universe, at the Eric Sahlström Institute. Much of their shared repertoire comes from central regions of Sweden, with a smattering of Norwegian and Danish and beyond. The lydia and Andrea concert is free and open to the public. The musical performance is sponsored by the Bishop Hill Heritage Association and the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency. The Dairy Building is located at 410 North Erickson Street, on the north end of Bishop Hill. For more details about the concert, call 309 927-3899 or email bhha@mymctc.net.
After the concert, attend a dinner fundraiser at the Filling Station Café, located at 303 North Bishop Hill Street. All goodwill donations from this supper will go to the LaGrace Hall of Hope in Galesburg, IL. This not for profit organization helps women and children in need. The dinner will start at 4 p.m. and will consist of Swedish pancakes, sausage, and other breakfast items.
