JULKARVE

In Sweden, it is a Christmas tradition to put aside the last sheaf of grain from the harvest, known as the Julkarve or the Christmas sheaf. The Julkarve would then be hung outside the home on Christmas Eve for the birds to feed on. This tradition most likely began as a way to keep the birds away from the harvest stored in the barn. According to legend, if many birds come, a good crop the next year will then follow.
