One of the primary missions of the Bishop Hill Heritage Association is the preserve the historic Bishop Hill Colony Buildings. The BHHA currently owns 9 buildings, 5 of which are Colony. Besides doing big restoration projects, we also do annual building maintenance.
Earlier this month at the 1857 Blacksmith Shop, the Heritage did some masonry repairs and tuckpointing on the first floor exterior on the west and north side of the building, as well as some repairs in the Broommaker’s room. Work was done by Gerard Tuckpointing, Oneida, IL.
Annual maintenance expenses are covered in a variety of ways. Some of it is covered by the rent paid by people who live or operate businesses in our buildings. Donations, memberships, grants, and gift shop sales (your Colony Store purchases) also goes towards these repairs. For those who supported the BHHA in those ways, thank you for your assistance!
