Learn basic woodcarving skills and take home your own hand carved stylized tree! This project is the original design of the instructor, Dennis Carlson, and has been featured in the nationally published woodcarving magazine, Woodcarving Illustrated. The 6-inch basswood ready to carve tree blank will be provided along with a quality carving knife, protective Kevlar glove and thumb guard. This class is designed as a beginner’s class but some experience handling a knife and working with wood will be helpful. The participants will learn proper carving techniques with emphasis on safety. They will also leave with an understanding of the nature of wood and various finishing options. The class will be taught at the Dairy Building from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 17. Lunch will be on your own. The cost is $25 per student. Class size is limited to 10 students. Register by calling 309 927-3899 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Coronavirus prevention steps will be taken. This workshop is sponsored by the BHHA and the IACA, a state agency.
