As many of you know, each year the Heritage creates a temporary exhibit on the first floor of the Steeple Building Museum. However, for this year, we are having a small special display in the hallway and a second larger exhibition in temporary exhibit room in the SW corner. Both of these displays use artifacts from the BHHA archives.
Since we are having Civil War Day this year in May, the hallway display is about Bishop Hill’s very own Company D of the Illinois 57th Volunteer Infantry. This company fought at Fort Donelson, Shiloh, and other major western Civil War battles. Artifacts from Company D are currently on display and will be out till the end of October 2026.
The theme for our other exhibit is Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday. The Heritage has artifacts that have connections with early U.S. history. We have land grants signed by a Founding Father, a Kentucky Long Rifle, and other early American items. This display will open in June and will close at the end of October 2026 as well.
