This year’s Chautauqua will be on Saturday August 24. This year’s theme is Women in History. The day begins with storyteller Brian “Fox” Ellis conducting a Storyteller’s Tour of Bishop Hill at 9:30 a.m. All our free Chautauqua performances will again be at the park gazebo, starting at 11 a.m. with Jo Lakota beginning the day by telling stories of Native American Women in History. After a short lunch break, Pam Brown will portray Mrs. Mary Lincoln at 1 p.m. At 2 p.m., Leslie Goddard will perform as pilot Amelia Earhart. Katie Knutson will portray Rachel Carson, the author of Silent Spring, at 3 p.m. Following the 3 p.m. performance, there will be a free Fika (coffee break with cookies provided) in the park where the audience can ask the performers questions in a roundtable discussion.
To finish off the day, there will be a dinner theater from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Bishop Hill Creative Commons, with Brian Fox Ellis (and special guest) performing America Her-Story. Please call P.L. Johnson’s at 309 927-3885 for reservations and prices. For more information about the 2024 Chautauqua, please contact the BHHA at 309 927-3899 or at bhha@mymctc.net
