The BHHA is proud to announce that it has recently received a grant of $250 from the Galesburg Community Foundation to help support our Vintage Baseball Weekend May 21 and 22, 2016. This event will teach young and old about the early roots of our great American pastime.
On Saturday, three 1850’s baseball teams, the Oregon Ganymedes, the Springfield Long Nine, and the Somonauk Blue Stockings will play games all day. Also that day, Bill Owens, author of the new book, The Scorecard, will present a program about how Bishop Hill has ties to the first professional baseball league. In addition, the musical group Hammer & Pick will be performing 19th century music. A special baseball exhibit, which includes recent donations and Forrest Cady items, will be on display at the Steeple Building Museum. Saturday night, the BHAC will be hosting a mystery dinner theater with a baseball theme.
On Sunday, the Henry County Museum will have a program about the early history of baseball, with a special display.
The BHHA is very thankful for the generous continued support given by the Galesburg Community Foundation for this educational event.
