For this week’s look at volunteers, the BHHA would like to recognize Black Hawk East College. Each spring, agriculture students, led by Professors Jeff Hawes and Andrew Larson and assisted by local volunteers (such as Jeff Kaiser and Alex Rabas), plant our crops in our historic garden. This year, flax, sorghum, broomcorn, and pumpkins were planted. The historic garden shows our Bishop Hill guests some of the crops used by the Colonists. Also the crops are used for demonstrations and fundraising projects. Photos of this year’s crops are shown below. The Heritage thanks all these Historic Garden volunteers for their help!!
