Starting this week, the BHHA is harvesting its watermelon crop. The melons can be purchased, by donation, at the Colony Store.
If you take a look at this week’s photos of the garden in the photo gallery, you will also see some of the broom corn has been “tabled.” What is a tabling? It is when a farmer walks backward between two rows of broomcorn and breaks the stalks diagonally across each other to form a “table” out of the two rows that is 2 to 3 ft high. This action is taken to allow some drying of the broom corn before it is removed from the field.
