As part of our 2023 Bishop Hill Civil War Days activities on Saturday May 6, local historian and former Galesburg HS teacher Sheryl Hinman is presenting a program about Kate Warne, a famous female Civil War spy, at noon in the Steeple Building Museum, located at 103 North Bishop Hill Street, Bishop Hill, IL

Kate Warne, America’s first female private eye, took on a significant role with the Pinkerton National Detective Agency during the Civil War. She was an active member of the team that protected Abraham Lincoln during his travel from Illinois to Washington DC. Working undercover during dangerous missions, Kate earned a reputation for her courage and her keen intellect. Join us on Saturday May 6, 2023 to learn more about Kaye Warne’s contributions to the Union cause.

This presentation is free and open to the public. This program is sponsored by the Bishop Hill Heritage Association. For more information about our 2023 Bishop Hill Civil War Days Festival and our other free activities, please call 309 927-3899 or email bhha@mymctc.net
