During Christmas Market, at the Bishop Hill Creative Commons on Saturday December 7 from 9 to 11 a.m., come and make your own sock tomte!
Bring an old sock or two, something fuzzy or blue for the body and something brightly patterned or red for the hat. A plain white footy makes the best base. We will provide extra socks if you need them, as well as the faux fur for the beard, needles and thread, and the stuffing to fill their bodies. The Commons is asking for a small donation of $5 to $10 per tomte to cover material costs, (depending on whether or not one uses their own socks.) This requires some sewing, but is easy enough for younger children with some adult assistance. Plan about 15-20 minutes for each sock Tomte. Teaching sessions will start at 9:00, 9:30, 10:00 and 10:30. Sign up is encouraged so there is enough material for everyone. If time and talent allows, someone could make a whole family of Tomte to share with their family.
