Check out the latest BHHA exhibition, Bishop Hill Colony Papers. It is on display at the Steeple Building Museum from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays thru Fridays. This exhibit displays original Bishop Hill Colony documents from the early to mid-1800’s. These artifacts have never been on public display before but have been the source material for a variety of books and articles that have been published about Bishop Hill over the decades. Each 19th century document provides a look back into a certain aspect of Bishop Hill Colony life. For example, one 1863 form list the Bishop Hill men who were eligible for military service or who were currently serving with the Union forces. This ledger thus shows how deeply involved Bishop Hill was in the Civil War.

The Steeple Building Museum is located at 103 North Bishop Hill Street in Bishop Hill, IL. The Bishop Hill Heritage Association is asking our visitors to follow social distancing guidelines and to wear a mask when entering the museum. Call 309 927-3899 or email bhha@mymctc.net if you have any questions. The last day for the exhibit will be this Friday October 30.
